The Social Media Strategy Nobody Talks About Because It’s Too Simple

July 6, 2026 · Stephon Rudd

Everyone wants a social media strategy. Content calendars, posting schedules, hashtag research, platform algorithms, optimal posting times.

Here’s the strategy nobody talks about because it sounds too simple to be taken seriously.

Pick one platform. Show up every day. Say one useful thing. Do that for six months without stopping.

That’s it. That’s the strategy.

I know that’s not what you were hoping for. You wanted something more sophisticated — a multi-platform approach with repurposing workflows and viral hook frameworks. And those things have their place. But they’re optimization strategies for something that’s already working. If nothing is working yet, optimization is premature.

The reason most people fail at social media isn’t because they picked the wrong platform or used the wrong hashtags. It’s because they didn’t show up consistently enough for long enough for anything to compound.

Social media growth is not linear. It doesn’t work the way most people expect it to. You post for three months and see almost nothing. Then something shifts. The algorithm starts recognizing you as a consistent creator. Your audience starts to trust that you’ll be there. The people who’ve been lurking for two months start engaging. The people who engage recommend you to others.

But you have to survive the first three months of nothing to get there.

The consistency isn’t just about the algorithm. It’s about developing a voice.

The first thirty posts you write will probably be mediocre. That’s not a criticism — it’s just true for almost everyone. You’re still figuring out what resonates, what sounds like you, what topics your audience actually cares about versus what you assumed they cared about. The only way to figure that out is to post and pay attention to what lands.

By post sixty you start to sound like yourself. By post ninety you have real data about what works. By post one-eighty you have an audience that knows what to expect from you and shows up because of it.

Six months of daily posting on one platform is worth more than six months of sporadic posting across five platforms. Depth beats breadth at the beginning.

The platform matters less than you think. LinkedIn works. X works. Instagram works. They all work if you show up consistently with genuine value. Pick the one where your audience already is and where you’re most comfortable creating.

Then show up every day. Say one useful thing. Don’t stop.

Simple. Not easy. But simple.
